Whatever Andy Found Interesting While Out At Sea — Fall 2026

This semester, the Carnegie Mellon University Database Group is launching a seminar series organized around a rigorously defined intellectual theme: whatever Andy thinks would be a good time.

There is no syllabus, only currents; no reading list, only artifacts deposited mysteriously on the conference-room table in a damp canvas sack; and no guarantee that the invited speaker is affiliated with an accredited institution or has spent meaningful time on land. The objective is to escape the suffocating boundaries of conventional database research and follow the data wherever it drifts, provided Andy spotted it through binoculars and muttered, "Yeah, haul that aboard."

All talks are on-line and open to the public via Zoom. You do not need to be a current CMU student to attend. Random people off of the internet are especially welcome. Videos will be posted on the CMU-DB YouTube Channel after each talk.
