In this presentation, we will discuss the history, architecture, testing, and challenges of the Turso database management system. Turso is an SQLite-compatible, open-contribution embedded database built in Rust. It has 300+ committers and 24K GitHub stars. Its feature set includes an async architecture for backends like io_uring and IOCP, and a multi-writer mode with a Hekaton-style implementation and a logical log for crash recovery.

Bio:

Mikaël is a software developer at Turso. He came to databases from music: he holds a PhD in musicology and a master’s degree in piano performance, and he spent over 15 years as a military musician in the Canadian Naval Reserve. In his spare time, he likes to drink coffee, learn languages and spend time with his family. He has previously given talks at Confoo, SCaLE, and OpenFest.
