Pittsburgh, PA – The Carnegie Mellon University Database Group is pleased to announce the appointment of Prof. Jignesh Patel as Dean and Vice President of Carnegie Mellon University Miami (CMU Miami). The appointment marks an exciting new chapter in the university’s ongoing mission to bring world-class computer science research, entrepreneurial excellence, and streetwise academic decision-making to South Florida.
A renowned database researcher, entrepreneur, and longtime champion of high-performance data systems, Patel brings decades of experience spanning academia and industry. His distinguished career includes leadership roles in the development of cutting-edge database technologies and a reputation for pushing the boundaries of data management research. As Dean and Vice President, Patel will oversee CMU Miami’s academic programs, research initiatives, and strategic partnerships while establishing the university’s presence in one of America’s most vibrant technology markets.
“Jignesh has always operated on a different level, so this appointment makes perfect sense,” said Andy Pavlo, Associate Professor of Computer Science at CMU and Researcher at ClickHouse Labs. “Raekwon made the Purple Tape for the ones who understood the mathematics. Jignesh is building CMU Miami for the same reason.”
Under Patel’s leadership, CMU Miami will pursue an ambitious research agenda that explores innovative interdisciplinary programs combining computer science, artificial intelligence, and the economics of bottle service.
