Oracle Database 23ai introduces groundbreaking enhancements that redefine transaction processing, ensuring greater concurrency, flexibility, and efficiency.

This talk will explore four key features that impact database transactions: Logical Replication of JSON Relational Duality Views, Lock-Free Reservations, Sessionless Transactions, and Value-based Concurrency Control. Learn how we logically and consistently replicate data stored in JSON Relational Duality Views to heterogenous target data stores. The Lock-free Reservations feature boosts concurrency of hot data, enhancing system efficiency. Sessionless Transactions enables lightweight and efficient transactions in the database, reducing complexity in building modern applications. Value-based Concurrency Control introduces a novel concurrency control approach that increases parallelism by reducing the locking duration.

Join us as we dive into these innovations and their impact on transaction processing in Oracle Database 23ai.

The two speakers are Kishy Kumar and Akshay S Kulkarni. Kishy is a Director at the Oracle Database Transactions Group. He holds a Master’s in Electrical and Computer Engineering with a focus on Systems Software from Carnegie Mellon and Bachelor’s in Electronics and Communications Engineering from Thapar University, India. Since graduating in 2013, he has been with Oracle working in different layers of the database and Exadata engineered system and is deeply invested in advancing databases and storage systems. In his free time, he volunteers for CMU’s Alumni Association by organizing events, mentors tech startups at accelerators, and likes to spend time with family, work out and play basketball. Akshay S Kulkarni is a manager at Oracle in the Data and Transactions Group. He graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a dual Master’s in Electrical & Computer Engineering and Technology Innovation Management, and joined Oracle in 2017. At Oracle, he works on projects related to transaction processing and flashback technologies. In his free time, he likes to read, swim, and play badminton.
