Title: Yellowbrick: An Elastic Data Warehouse On Kubernetes

Yellowbrick is an elastic SQL data warehouse with a design centered on efficiency, high concurrency and performance. The database management system is composed from a set of Kubernetes-orchestrated containers. Kubernetes provides the single-source-of-truth for system configuration and state, and manages all warehousing lifecycle operations. In this session, I’ll provide an overview of Yellowbrick and its microservices architecture, and focus on the work we’ve done in our query optimizer, workload management system and in the Linux kernel to drive high performance and concurrency.

This talk is part of the Vaccination Database (Booster) Tech Talk Seminar Series.

Bio:
Mark Cusack is the CTO at Yellowbrick Data. Before joining Yellowbrick, Mark was Vice President for Data and Analytics at Teradata, where he led a variety of product management and technology teams in the data warehousing and advanced analytics groups. He was also chief architect of Teradata’s IoT Analytics effort. Mark joined Teradata in 2014 when Teradata acquired the startup RainStor, where he was a co-founding developer and chief architect. Prior to RainStor, Mark was a lead scientist in the UK Ministry of Defence. He holds a Ph.D. in computational physics from Newcastle University, UK, with a thesis centered on discovering the electronic and non-linear optical properties of quantum dots. As a research fellow at Newcastle, he developed new techniques to model these novel quantum structures using large-scale parallel and distributed computing approaches.
