PITTSBURGH, PA — The Carnegie Mellon Database Research Group is proud to present the PostgreSQL vs. The World Seminar Series, a spring 2026 program examining the evolving landscape of database management systems. In an era where PostgreSQL compatibility has become a de facto baseline for modern data platforms, this series highlights both PostgreSQL-centric systems and alternative databases that challenge conventional assumptions about scalable data processing and system design.

Hosted online via Zoom and open to the public, each seminar will feature expert speakers from industry and research communities who will explore cutting-edge innovations in DBMS design and deployment. Sessions take place Mondays at 4:30 pm ET, with recordings subsequently published on the CMU-DB YouTube Channel.

In the spirit of cross-disciplinary influence, the series takes inspiration from Logic’s groundbreaking 2018 Wu-Tang Forever track, which shows how to stand on the shoulders of giants while pushing forward with a new voice. It is a fitting metaphor for today’s database ecosystem, where PostgreSQL’s enduring ideas meet bold new system designs.
